Company History

During the beginning of 2001, the shareholders of C. Brewer & Co. announced that they had voted to liquidate the assets of C. Brewer, mainly for personal estate planning reasons, including Brewer Environmental Industries, LLC (BEI, LLC). At that time, BEI, LLC was a one hundred million dollar business with an agricultural and industrial chemical distribution division, a trucking and truck sales division, and an independent power plant. Under the leadership of two of BEI, LLC’s executives, a group of five local investors formed an acquisition company called Phoenix V, LLC and began to negotiate with C. Brewer for the purchase of substantially all of the assets of BEI, LLC, not including the Hilo trucking division and the power plant.

Despite the economic turmoil caused by the terrorist attack on September 11, Phoenix V was able to put the deal together to purchase the distribution division, and on January 1, 2002, with the help of 100 dedicated employees, began doing business as BEI Hawaii.

After six months of successfully operating BEI Hawaii, the Phoenix group went back to C. Brewer and negotiated to purchase the truck sales and service division, and began doing business as HT&T Hawaii on July 1 2002.

As the investors began to see more opportunities for future acquisitions, they formed Marathon Group LLC in January 2003, to hold the ownership interests of BEI Hawaii and HT&T Hawaii.

July 2004 was an exciting time for the Marathon group as a new Project & Construction Management Company was formed, BTS (BEI Technical Services) and opened for business on July 26, 2004.

Currently, Marathon Group LLC includes the following companies:

·         BEI Hawaii, Hawaii’s largest distributor of industrial chemicals, fertilizers, and agricultural products.

·         HT&T Hawaii, Hawaii’s largest full-service heavy and medium-duty truck dealer with exclusive statewide Peterbilt, Volvo and GMC dealerships.

·         BEI Consulting, Management & Information Technology consultants.
